Tai Chi and Qigong (pronounced chee-goong) are ancient Chinese practices which utilise slow and deliberate movements and breathing techniques to encourage harmony in your body.

This course builds on knowledge and techniques gained in the Tai Chi & Qi Gong for Beginners course. In this course, the students will progress to learn a new Tai Chi standard routine known as “BaFa WuBu” (Eight Methods – Five Steps) and will learn the Qigong sequence called “Wu Xin Qi” (Five Animals).

Tai Chi routines are sequences of smooth and flowing movements that promote health benefits, that could lead to a harmonious balance of mind and body. Because of that, sometimes Tai Chi is called “meditation in motion”. Research has shown that the long-established practice of Tai Chi is a fantastic form of exercise that cann develop muscular strength, improve circulation, boost immune functioning, increase vitality, while working on flexibility and improving coordination and balance.

Combined with Qigong which focuses on using breathing, posture, movement and/or sound to cleanse, refine, accumulate and circulate energy in the body, it is recognised as a method that can improve overall health and fitness.

Benefits of practising Tai Chi and Qi Gong can include better resistance to disease, preventing imbalances and dysfunctions and development of a clear, tranquil state of mind that helps to reduce stress.

Participants will be encouraged to incorporate the routines that they will be learning into their daily activities.

Introduction to "Dao Yin Health Qigong" Workshop - Sitting Forms

Dao Yin is a set of Qigong exercises adapted from over 50 ancient forms. It consists of twelve movements designed by the Chinese Health Qigong Association. The movements are easy to learn, suitable for all ages and can be practised in both standing and sitting positions.
This simple and accessible regime that may be varied in intensity to suit the individual, is perfect for anyone (whether experienced qigong practitioners or complete beginners) wishing to learn the potent traditional forms that have practised by the Chinese for thousands of years.
It is aimed to strengthen the functioning of the energy (Qi) and blood (Xue) to flow freely from the head to the toes to nourish the internal organs and boost our immune system to promote health and well-being. Each exercise is performed a set number of times and co-ordinated with deep breathing to make it the most effective. The movements can be practised separately or in a set sequence; they also can be used alongside other practices like Tai Chi.
Learning the sitting set of Shi Er Fa will equip teachers with effective exercises to teach both individually and in groups, including children, people with disabilities and older people.
